1.
Soon the light that is breaking across the water will fill the room See the birds of the river who dance in the smile of a fading moon Suddenly you're no longer bound to the darkness you found in your infancy The Chorus of Dawn means your ties have been torn In the Clear Light you'll see
2.
Cicada 03:32
you see her eyes are brighter than our eyes early riser and it makes her wise she’s an early riser and she sleeps in her clothes whistles to the wind and it wipes her nose ah she’s so dry ah want to wait until you see her fly when she springs you can see that her wings are red on the ground (you look around) she’s like a stone being dead when the darkness comes she goes to sleep leave her there and crawl away to weep she’s an early riser and she needs her rest leave her til the dawn if you know what’s best cool, she’s so dry ah wait a million years to see her cry when she sings it’s like a saw on something raw when she talks it’s like cold sparks on the floor early riser prophesies a perfect day better bloody listen to what she say early riser advertise a day is due you don’t know what I know if I know you
3.
Winter 03:41
OK so it gets dark early now and you find your shoulders are cold when you wake in the morning pull the blankets higher cos it’s not yet light outside Last night you’re right the moon was bright but OK I say another day you see I’m lazy now and either way I really don’t mind I really don’t mind And I’ll roar you as gentle as any normal liar Say a speech and try to reach the corners of the fire Say it seven times while heaven times the goodness in you and reviews the evening news - to see who’s made the grade But don’t forget I haven’t yet got round to letting you be who you are and being happy with the way we were made The way - we were made Just - trying to stay warm
4.
Sunday Phone 02:33
phone call called across the city on sunday afternoon came his voice along the line ‘you know I’d like to see you soon I would come over today you know if I only could but you know it’s such a long way to your side of the wood so instead I think I’ll just stay on my familiar track maybe one day lazy sunday you’ll get to call me back there was so much I wanted to tell you about that’ll have to be left unsaid cos I know that the moment I put the phone down, it’ll all fall right out of my head

about

FOUR SONGS MORE
by Nigel Planer

Here are four more songs that I wrote in 1971 when I was eighteen, the year I dropped out of university. They are a follow on from FIVE SONGS LEFT, (the title was a reference to the 1969 album, ‘Five Leaves Left’ by Nick Drake). It was a time before the internet and mobile phones, it would be eight years until the Sony Walkman came out. It was a time of double-fold vinyl albums, books and corduroy, tea and cigarettes. A time before duvets, a pint of beer cost 20p and it did seem as if life was a gift to squander. We tried to make these recordings sound authentically of the time they were written.
1] Chorus of Dawn
